Great Great Shows

Summer is here, and with its entrance comes one notable exit, the flocks of college students we are used to seeing frequent our bars and music venues. While this is great  for those of you who try to avoid the crowds, this is not so great for our beloved venues’ pocketbooks. There are a lot of ways to spend that hard earned entertainment dollar these days and we know you want to make it go as far as you can, so for you we have a (non-exhaustive) list of some of the best upcoming shows, all $10 or less.

Monday 6/23

Monday Night Alright! – Franki Chan(LA, CA), Radioclit(UK), & Drop The Lime(BK, NY) @ Beauty Bar

This week Scion AV brings you IHEARTCOMIX CD Release party 100% for free with RSVP. Start the week off right, without spending a dime. (Unless you prefer to booze hard on Monday nights, I personally prefer to give my liver a rest on this particular day of the week)

Islands w/ Crayonsmith, Sebastien Grainger (Singer/Drummer from DFA 1979), (Outside) @ Emo’s

Ex-Unicorns member reformed as this sixpiece from Montreal. Opening for Islands is Sebastien Grainger from Death from Above 1979. This $8 show is sounds like a steal.

Tuesday 6/24

Real Live Tigers, Precious Blood, Ryan Anderson, Hill and Range @ Beerland

Beerland always promises a great show at a low price and this show is no different. Headliner, Real Live Tigers will be taking a hiatus as front man Tony embarks on a two month tour with New Science Projects. Don’t miss what could possibly one of your last chances to see this great band.

Voodoo Glow Skulls, Al Shire and the Henchmen, Knock Out, The Buzzkillers (Inside) @ Emo’s

This show is worth every penny of the $10 cover. Hell, I would pay twice that to see this show. VGS have been rocking our faces off for 16 years now with their hardcore punk, ska, Mexican meshed sounds. Another Southern Californian band, Knock Out, and two local goodies round out this badass bill. Free tickets are up for grabs for this show also! You know what to do…

Wednesday 6/25

KGSR Blues on the Green – Marcia Ball @ Zilker Park

You can’t get any cheaper than free. If you have not been out to Blues on the Green, you are missing out! This week Marcia Ball will delivering her soulful mix of Texas tunes interlaced with a distinct New Olreans flavor.

Lisa Hayes, Lauren Adams @ Threadill’s North Old No. 1

You like hearing that magic word free? Then here is another one for you. Head up north for a good ‘ol Americana/Country show…FREE!

Thursday 6/26

The Kadane Brothers, {{{Sunset}}}, Crystal Antlers (Inside) @ Emo’s

Emo’s has done it once again. In fact, they are on fire this summer with show after show of great, cheap shows. The Kadane Brothers were born from the ashes of The New Year and Bedhead, two bands featuring the brothers, both of which you probably once knew and loved. $8 cover, OR “Click I Like!” to try and win some freebies.

Maneja Beto @ Stubb’s

Feeling like a little Latin tonight? DON’T miss one of Austin’s best, Maneja Beto. Rapidly gathering an avid following, this group is truly a don’t miss. At $7 for those of you over 21, why would you have to?

Friday 6/27

Fuck Yeah Tour with Matt & Kim, Deathset, Team Robespierre, Brother Reade, Plastic Little @ The Mohawk

$8 here will score you entry to see everyone’s beloved Matt & Kim. Even better in my book is TheDeathSet, a crazy group of guys whose sound I will refer to as punk, although that in no way describes what you will experience. This Baltimore five piece is just something you will have to experience for yourself.

Paula Nelson & George Devore @ Threadgill’s North Old No. 1

Two GREAT local acts both making their mark on the scene. What’s even better, the show is free and Do512 is giving away a $40 tab for your enjoyment at the show. Click “I Like It!” to win.

Saturday 6/28

The Modey Lemon, The Strange Attractors, Manikin, Black Panda (Inside)

The Modey Lemon is a psychedelic three piece from Pennsylvania. Psychedelic rock is all the rage these days. Therefore Modey Lemon = all the rage these days. Two top notch local acts round out the bill. Because this show is going to be so great, we’re giving away 2 pairs of tickets!

Shapes Have Fangs, Harlem cd release, Yellow Fever @ Beerland

Locals, Harlem, have a new CD out, and they are throwing a party! Come out and support your local boys. With only a $5 cover, you can afford to take home a new CD as well.
