The month of the front man

Over here at Do512 we diligently seek out all upcoming events going on in and around Austin so that you don’t miss out on a single thing. Recently whilst doing so I noticed a noteworthy number of shows featuring some of solo performances from artists in some of our favorite bands.

7/3

Andy Rourke DJ Set, The Black & White Years, Ideal Soul Mart @ Emo’s

For those of you who don’t already know, Andy Rourke is a badass bass player. He most famously played with The Smiths, duh, but other notable bands include The Pretenders, Killing Joke, Badly Drawn Boy. And with Austin favorites The Black & White Years rounding out the bill, this show is bound to be a great time.

7/4

Andrew WK, Tom Gabel, O’Pioneers, Grenadiere @ Emo’s

Against Me! broke out onto the scene big time last year, although many of you likely know they have been churning out good music for quite awhile now. While there is nothing quite like seeing the full band together, I imagine Tom Gabel will put on quite the performance opening up for Andrew WK on the 4th. If this isn’t patriotic, I don’t know what is.

7/11

Peter Murphy w/ Ali Eskandarian @ Emo’s

And rounding out the bill we have Peter Murphy of the Bauhaus. While Murphy played with the Bauhaus until 1983, many of you may know him best from his solo career. Recently he even recorded a cover of the song “Warm Leatherette” with Trent Reznor. This is guaranteed to be an experience not to miss.

I feel like I may be missing some shows here? Any ideas?
