Atmosphere at Stubb’s Wed. August 5th – Win Free Tix!
Minneapolis hip-hop collective Atmosphere is led by emcee Slug (Sean Daley) and his DJ/producer bandmate Ant (aka Anthony Davis.) The two are complimented by a revolving cast of guests from the Rhymesayers collective, an independent hip-hop record label based in Minneapolis that has included such notables as Brother Ali, MF Doom and Soul Position. Since forming in the early ’90s Atmosphere have become legends in the underground hip-hop community, with a massive following that includes not only die-hard hip-hop fans but indie rockers and punks too.
Atmosphere are extremely passionate about live performances, usually touring with an ensemble cast that adds some muscle with guitar and keys. They are one of the featured hip-hop acts appearing at Lollapalooza this year, and their headlining performance at Fun Fun Fun Fest in 2008 was a big hit. Their latest release is When Life Gives You Lemons, You Paint That Shit Gold, a record that featured guest spots from the likes of Tom Waits and TV on the Radio’s Tunde Adebimpe. Paste Magazine called it “a sound that’s far more textured and intricate than their previous five efforts.”
Atmosphere will be performing at Stubb’s on Wednesday, and you can click “I Like It!” on the Do512 event listing for a chance to win a pair of tickets to the show.
