Better Than Ezra 9/19 at La Zona Rosa
Surely most people remember singing along to one of Better Than Ezra’s songs on modern rock radio back in the ’90s. Originally based in New Orleans, the trio has been making it’s mark on the billboard charts since 1995, with their singles “In The Blood”, “Good”, and “Rosealia” receiving major airplay across the United States. A few albums later they were still cranking out radio hits like “King of New Orleans”, “Desperately Wanting”, and “Extra Ordinary”.
Better Than Ezra helped open the floodgates for countless chart-topping mainstream alt-pop acts of the late ’90s by merging rock with melody and creating a more easily digestible form of alternative music for the masses. The band is currently touring in support of their seventh album, 2009’s Paper Empire, which is their latest collection solid mainstream rock mixed with pop-rock balladry.
Opening for Better Than Ezra at La Zona Rosa will be the California five-piece rock outfit Sherwood. According to their label, SideCho Records, Sherwood’s melodic pop songs “offer sharp lyrics, indie sensibility and a nod to the great pop songwriters of decades past.” The band was asked to join the last three weeks of the Vans Warped Tour, so their live show must be pretty good too.
