Pitbull and Mike Relm, Austin Music Hall 10/8
When Miami rapper Pitbull teams up with San Francisco audio-visual DJ Mike Relm on the big stage at the Austin Music Hall, the result can only be one of the best party atmospheres imaginable. Presented by Oakley and Rozone Productions, this event will take place on Thursday, October 8th, with doors opening at 7 p.m.
Chart-topping Cuban-American MC Pitbull, aka Armando Pérez, has more hardcore lyrics, diverse cultural influences and freestyle skills than most of his peers would know what to do with. His music ranges from R&B influenced sounds to techno and dance-inspired tracks, with an eye for mainstream pop and down south gangsta rap. The young lyricist sold more than 600,000 copies of his debut album “M.I.A.M.I.”, making it the best-selling bilingual hip-hop debut since Cypress Hill in 1991.
Pitbull operates in the rare category of Latino rappers who have achieved major crossover success. At the Teen Choice Awards he was nominated for Best Rap Artist, Best Rap/Hip Hop Track and Best Summer Song, while also taking home the Billboard Latin Music Award for “Latin Digital Download Artist of the Year.” Both thematically and musically, the 25-year-old is seen as a modern-day equivalent of earlier Miami rappers such as the 2 Live Crew and Afro-Rican. He has appeared on record with the likes of Twista, Trick Daddy, Lil Jon and Bun B.
Opening the show will be Mike Relm, a critically acclaimed turntablist from San Francisco. Relm is known for his amazing live performances, featuring a series of audio mash-ups with video images manipulated simultaneously. He has done an arena tour with the Blue Man Group, performed at the closing ceremonies of the Pan Am Games in Rio de Janeiro, and has entertained locally during SXSW and at the Austin Fashion Awards.
