Once In a Blue Moon, NEW YEAR’S EVE

Don’t have any rockin’ New Year’s Eve plans yet? PERFECT. Since some of us like to plan ahead during the holiday season, especially with all the killer parties that are happening and especially because everybody needs an awesome way to celebrate the BIGGEST night of the year, this party sounds like the best way to say goodbye to a great 2009 and to say a nice big hello to 2010. Kicking off at 8:00 PM on New Year’s Eve, “Once In a Blue Moon” will be held at the Travis County Expo Center, and with a venue capacity of 15,000+ and a plethora of live electronic music, be prepared for a massive MASSIVE dance party.

“Once In a Blue Moon” is bringing in some of the nation’s top DJ’s to ensure that everyone dances their ass off well past midnight. Some key acts to watch out for include:

Terry Mullan is a Chicago extraordinaire on the turntables and a staple on the house music scene. He has played sets at Coachella, Sullivan Room, Bugged Out, The End, Footwork, and Ruby Skye as well as numerous raves across Japan, Australia, and Germany. With a faithful following and a signature style of “funky quirky jacking acid house” combine with cutting and scratching, this kid has managed to create a whole new genre of music for us to jam out to.

The Evol Intent trio hails from the “dirty South” (Hotlanta, Georgia to be exact) and are well-known for their incredible innovations in drum n’bass. As a three-piece power troop, this group has produced some of the most ephemeral and progressive drum n’bass to date, leaving their mark on the scene in the U.S. and abroad. Combining dynamic drum mechanics, razor-sharp edits, sawtooth synths, and an element of punkish discord, the trio has not only been incredibly successful, but have even begun their own record company. Another act not to miss.

And speaking of Evol Intent, one member of the trio (Knick) teamed up with Dr. Ray Boardman M.D. (aka Ewun… who will also be performing that night) to form another electronic powerhouse that will be kicking your ass on the dance floor–Ludachrist. Through their slicing, dicing, manipulating, and recombining of a broad range of musical genres, Ludachrist brings some of the most creative and mind-blowing mash-up remixes that you will ever hear. And with their attention to the details– seamless blends, clever transitions and even including elements of live instrumentation–they successfully place themselves far above the competition.

DJ Micro is an American trance DJ who made his start aggressively touring the country recording mix albums for electronic music label, Moonshine. Starting over on the East Coast, Micro’s weekly club nights led him to build up a brand, and he has since moved toward trance stylings while maintaining his breakbeat roots. As an acclaimed DJ, remixer, producer, and label founder, he never fails to deliver an ecstatic night of pumping progressive sounds wherever he performs.

Moving over to the West Coast talent that will be “killing” it on NYE (yes, pun intended), Kill the Noise launched his little project in January of ’08 and in a short 2 years has earned recognition from house music fanatics and world-class DJ’s alike. With a sound that embraces both veterans and newer generations, Jake Stanczak (the face behind the mask) pushes the envelope in electronic music. From a worldwide touring schedule to a prized invitation to perform on Tiesto’s Kaleidoscope World Tour in North America, Kill the Noise will definitely be an exciting act to witness.

Another West Coast talent comes to us in the form of skylab2000an artist that Time Out anoints as “a rave legend” and that Urb Magazine claims to be “the bomb of all bombs.” Big shot DJ’s around the world spin skylab2000 tracks, and for over a decade he’s been traveling city to city playing live for some of the best audiences in the world– from Russia, Japan, and Hong Kong, to Puerto Rico, Venezuela, and Mexico. He’s done his fair share of U.S. touring as well, and with synths, samplers, mixers, and effects in his repertoire, this talented guy plays LIVE and adapts his spinning to the ambience of the crowd. I think it’s safe to say that WE better not let HIM down, and show skylab200 just how crazy the ATX can really get.

And finally, the highlight of the evening will no doubt be Ferry Corsten–a Dutch DJ, remixer, and trance music all-star who has consistently ranked in DJ Magazine’s “Top 10” DJ’s for almost a decade. This guy will pull out an arsenal of flashing lights, mesmerizing pyrotechnics, ascending fireworks, and pulsating beats, which is pretty much EXACTLY how I will want to ring in midnight this New Year’s Eve. Dance music fans across the world have flocked to his shows, clamoring to get close to (let’s face it) a living legend. Since his emergence on the scene in the late 1990’s, this musician has amassed best-selling albums, nearly a dozen gold singles, and countless COUNTLESS other awards. While, as a producer, Corsten is known for his trance classics, he has managed to remix everyone from U2 to Moby to Public Enemy, to release 3 albums under his own name, and to put out a myriad amount of compilations and singles under various guises. Frankly, we should be pretty freaking excited that someone who has had as many hits, rocked as many dance floor, and produced as many classics will be choosing to spend his New Year’s Eve in Austin. The masses will definitely come for this one, so GET READY.

These are just the HIGHLIGHTS. Many many more electronic wonders will be showering you with their musical genius, so make sure you get there early (8PM) and definitely stay late (aka whenever you fall asleep standing up). And don’t worry about those annoying bar age limits (yes, I was there once), this whole thing is 16+. Remember to bring ALL your friends, family, neighbors, strangers, extra cash money, smiles, and your best dance moves. To find out more about tickets (regular, VIP, and ULTRA VIP), head over to the event page, where we are also giving away the chance to win 10 FREE PAIRS of tickets if you click “I Like It.” SEE YOU THERE/CAN’T WAIT TO PARTY!
