First Night Austin, NEW YEAR’S EVE
If you are still on the hunt for a killer New Year’s Eve bash, what better way to spend it than with the greatest people you’ll ever meet in the best venue of all time? Sounds sort of far-fetched, but H-E-B is presenting our great city with the 5th annual “First Night Austin,” a New Year’s Eve party that will be held for ALL Austinites, taking place in our very own streets and buildings downtown.
For the past four years now, First Night Austin has been a unique and creative New Year’s Eve celebration that has transformed downtown Austin into an ideal backdrop for a city-wide party, bringing in the new year with creative traditions of performing and visual arts. Our great city’s plazas, parks, streets, storefronts, buildings, and bridges act as stages to showcase these traditions, which successfully highlight our cultural richness and artistic diversity by bringing together neighbors and communities in a way that no other celebration could. Officially begun in Boston (way back in 1976) by a set of community-minded individuals inspired by the idea of a citywide celebration of the New Year, First Night Austin will be a family-friendly, affordable, and alcohol0l-free (with the exception of The Long First Night) event that celebrates all the art, ritual, and festivity that Austin has to offer.
Everything gets kicked off EARLY at 4 PM on December 31st with an Afternoon Family Festival, followed by a Grand Procession, Illumination on Auditorium Shores, a Waterlight Parade on Lady Bird Lake, and more. But DON’T WORRY if you are still in your “fun” adult years, there’s going to be a PREMIERE EVENT (a.k.a. secret guest performance) at the Long Center that will be well worth a visit. Get your discounted tickets Now for The Long First Night because they won’t last. $15 gets you general admission entry or opt for a super great deal and get your $95 VIP tix, good for an open bar, complimentary buffet and chefs station, and special VIP party. Of course, the whole evening will be rounded off by a Grand Finale and Fireworks, both easily viewable from The Long Center! The night has been planned out with over 50 local artists and talent (including: The Daze, Foot Patrol, HIPNAUTICA, and much much more). And since First Night Austin will treat you to HOURS AND HOURS of New Year’s Eve fun, make sure you plan for the weather, are prepared to walk, and plan your day in advance! There will be a food court for yummy meals and restrooms located throughout downtown.
Head over to the First Night website to make donations so that this First Night can be the best one yet, and keep checking the event page at Do512 because we’ll be giving out a discount code for tickets to the aforementioned premier event. Tickets for that will be running at $13 for regular entry and $75 for VIP! Can’t wait to party will all you guys! See ya SOON!
