Do512 Shout-Out: The Parish

Chances are, if you seem to think you know a little bit about what “good live music” is these days, then you’ve most definitely visited The Parish— the 6th street hot spot and Austin music hub that has seen a fair share of enviable acts grace its stage in the past. Don’t let its fratty location fool you. Located on the 2nd floor in the 200 block of E. 6th (down the street from another Do512 fave, Ace’s Lounge), The Parish is a massive one room concert venue that offers an incredibly insane ambience for live music–substantial space to dance, reasonably priced drinks to consume, and light shows that will (no doubt) blow your mind. Compared to other indoor music venues, it has always been a clear favorite. Given its commitment to high quality production and reputation for having some of the best indoor sound in all of Austin (it literally ENGULFS you!), the venue continually sells out its 450 capacity space and receives ridiculous volumes of  music lovers on a regular basis.

As an all-genre music venue, The Parish has attracted a broad variety of well-acclaimed acts from rock legends (Pete Townshend, Perry Farrell) and stars on the indie circuit (Yeasayer, Grizzly Bear) to electronic masters (Pretty Lights, Drop the Lime) and local favorites (Ume, The Bright Light Social Hour). After undergoing some slight changes in the fall, the venue has picked itself up, plowed successfully through the beginning of 2k10, and established itself (once again) as one of the best places to catch an unforgettable live show. After coming off Austin’s FREE WEEK with a killer local line-up, The Parish has thrown an extremely successful “Hope for Haiti” benefit concert and has promised us some all-star acts in the very near future. So if you’re a Parish regular or a new kid on the block, make sure you swing by one of our favorite places to hear a damn good live show ASAP. With an envied reputation and array of booked talent, The Parish can legitimately be called a true Austin music staple. And remember, Do512 gives away FREE TICKETS to EVERY SHOW that goes down at the Parish so check out their page on our website!
