Free Press Summer Fest 6/5-6

This summer might seem like a long way away (and too far in advance to plan), but with something THIS bad ass scheduled for early June, there is simply no way that you can pass up a chance to slap this festival on your calendar.

After Free Press Summer Fest‘s exceptional rookie success last year, Houston’s first ever outdoor music festival has decided to go round 2 this summer, even bigger and better than before. If you were among the unfortunate few (myself included) who missed the festival’s first go around last August, you missed out on a slew of local indie rockers and big name bands such as Of Montreal, Broken Social Scene, and Explosions in the Sky jamming out on two stages in Houston’s Eleanor Tinsley Park. This year Free Press Houston and Pegstar are not only bringing the festival back to the park in early June (5th-6th), but they are expanding it even more with an additional stage, more bands, and bigger names all for a CHEAP price.

Free Press Summer Fest 2010 will feature an all-star lineup of  50+ performers–a unique conglomeration of Houston’s finest local musicians with national sell-out stadium bands. With the Grammy Award winning group The Flaming Lips confirmed to headline, a talented mass of artists appear on the lineup: mash-up master Girl Talk, the notorious rapper Slim Thug, indie rockers Ra Ra Riot, Stars, Mix Master Mike, Dead Prez, Lucero, Kid Sister, Givers, Municipal Waste, Cro-Mags, Detroit Cobras, and the list goes on (see poster above). Adding a third stage this year, the festival has definitely expanded their scope, offering a more diverse array of national and regional acts that will be rocking out Eleanor Tinsley Park.

And although the music is a HUGE attraction, Free Press Summer Fest is more than just a music festival. When it comes time to take a break from the killer Texas summer heat, the fest offers an array of other experiences. Dozens of artisan booths will be set up throughout the grounds for your browsing pleasure, and festival-goers will have a chance to cool off in misting tents or the shaded beer garden. But most importantly, there will be an enormous supply of FREE WATER available, so none of you kids get dehydrated.

The best thing about the whole festival, you ask? Besides the awesome line-up and thoughtful accommodations, the CHEAP TICKETS are sure to be a deal sealer. Head over to the Do512 page to find out how to purchase the pre-sale general admission passes beginning at only $22.50, and if you seek a more “comfortable” festival experience (aka air conditioned tents), you can also purchase the “Fancy Pants” 2-day package. BUT if you’re feeling lucky… Do512 is giving away FIFTEEN pairs of FREE TICKETS. Yes, that would be FIFTEEN PAIRS of tickets FOR FREE. All you gotta do is click “I Like It!” on the event page, and stick around/cross your fingers to see if you are one of the lucky winners.

Get your tickets NOW, because with these bands at this low of a price, they are sure to go fast. CAN’T WAIT TO SEE YOU IN THE SUMMER!
