Do512 Shout-Out: Mi Casa Cantina

Do you love music, margaritas, and tamales as much as we do? Then it’s time to head on over to one of our new favorite places, Mi Casa Cantina–the new bar/music venue over on dirty 6th that weekly offers up cold cerveza, frozen margs, some famous tamales, and live music. Located where the (now extinct) Troubadour Saloon once sat (between Red River and Neches), Mi Casa kicked off its reign as one of the hottest new places to catch an act on 6th street during its stint as an official SXSW venue a couple of weeks ago. After hosting a variety of successful international acts, the cantina is now open Wednesday through Saturday from 7pm to 2 am, as well as being available for any kind of promotion or private bash you want to throw 7 days a week.

Considering its dedication to being a music venue, Mi Casa Cantina offers up live music Thursdays through Saturdays. Starting it all off, EVERY Thursday at Mi Casa, you can spend all night dancing to cumbia, reggae, salsa and roots music at their weekly “Raza en Mi Casa” event with Huerta Culture. The rest of the weekend you can stop by any time to hear some real Texas music at any one of the live music shows they host. Up next on Mi Casa’s music calendar (some nights with NO cover charge and every time with awesome drink specials–$0.50 wells and $2.50 margaritas until 11!):

4/9 80 Proof

4/16 Ben Danaher

4/23 Kacey Musgraves

Don’t forget that this place is a bar as well. Mi Casa Cantina boasts an extensive drink menu that lists margaritas and a variety of Mexican imported beers alongside some creative Texas-inspired drinks such as “The John Wayne” (Lonestar with a shot of tequila) and “The Alamo” (tequila, orange juice, pineapple juice, and 7-up).

And last, but certainly not least, Mi Casa Cantina is proud to be the Home of the Authentic Homemade XL Texas Tama– a tamale that boasts to be double the size of most of its competitors. (Different kinds of tamales include pork w/jalapeno, bean, chicken verde, jalapeno and cheese, and vegetarian options such as spinach and sweet corn). Respecting the fact that to most Latin cultures, tamales are perhaps the most important celebratory food in existence, Mi Casa regularly prepares these notorious creations for celebrations and feast days ranging from Christmas, New Years, and Day of the Dead to weddings, christenings, and birthdays. As the perfect party food (which also happen to freeze extremely well… a.k.a. more for later), Mi Casa Cantina’s tamales are not to be overlooked!

From the XL tamales and delicious beverages to the range of live music offered, Mi Casa Cantina is one of OUR new favorite places, and it should be yours as well! Head over to their Do512 page to check out what all they have going on, and look out for special deals COMING SOON! Welcome aboard, Mi Casa Cantina! So glad to have you with us!
