STOMP at the Paramount 5/4-5/9

Now that MAY is quickly approaching, it’s about time to start planning for some of the awesome events that are coming into town. Back to Austin by popular demand, STOMP–the unique sound and music performance that has become recognized world-wide for its exploration of rhythm and dance–will bring its set of brooms, garbage cans, and matchboxes to The Paramount Theatre for seven performances between Tuesday, May 4th and Sunday, May 9th.

Highly acclaimed by publications around the world, STOMP takes its root with the “buskers” (a.k.a. street performances) in Brighton, England. Modernizing the centuries-old custom of these street performances, STOMP adapts the artful exploration of rhythm and dance by putting it on the stage and involving audiences in a progressive performance of both rhythm and instruments. It takes you on a journey–from an opening sequence with a simple clap and response session to a complex conglomeration of noises and characters that take on a life of their own.  With 30 brooms, 15 pounds of sand, 200 litres of water, 8 bananas (?), and a variety of other objects, a cast of unique characters carefully combine elements of music, theater, and dance to put on an unforgettable performance. The idea behind it all? To find music in the everyday noises that people usually try to block out and ignore. Defying customary conceptions, STOMP creates quite the unparalleled experience!

You can catch a performance of STOMP at any of the below dates/times:
