Davíd Garza Saturday at the Parish!
Davíd Garza is an Austin-based singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist who infuses rock and pop with a Latin feel. His pop-savvy songwriting and vocal style regularly draws comparisons to Freddie Mercury, Jeff Buckley, Donovan and Robert Plant. Garza cites other influences as diverse as Led Zeppelin, Stevie Ray Vaughan and Blondie.
After cutting his teeth on the UT campus with his band Twang Shock-a-Boom, Garza ultimately released his major-label debut in 1998 through Atlantic Records and became a national success. In 1999, at the height of his touring popularity, Garza was voted second only behind Stevie Ray Vaughan as Austin Musician of the Decade in the Austin Chronicle. He subsequently drew multiple critical accolades (as well as comparisons to the late Jeff Buckley) and toured with the likes of Smashing Pumpkins and Ani DiFranco.
David Garza has been described as independent as Damien Rice, acclaimed as Joseph Arthur, grassroots as Ben Harper, and prolific as Ani DiFranco. He wrote, performed and produced all tracks on his latest and 21st full-length album Dream Delay, which includes guest appearances by Fiona Apple, Minstry’s Al Jourgensen and Sparta/At The Drive In’s Jim Ward.
This July 18th performance at the Parish will be his only local show until the Austin City Limits Music Festival in October, so don’t miss it! Do512 will be giving away five pairs of tickets for this show, and to qualify all you have to do is click “I Like It!” on the event listing.
